Sometimes in life and in business we need a kick up the arse…

That’s not to say that we’re not normally motivated and happy to do what we’re supposed to be doing, but there are times when you lose your mojo, big time. Literally, you can’t drag yourself off the couch, stop endlessly scrolling cat videos or pull your eyes away from that Netflix binge.

Trust me when I tell you; it happens to the best of us. Now when that happens it’s ok. First and foremost you need to forgive the odd bout of down-time. You work hard dammit! You deserve a day of lazy leisure. But when that day turns into a week, it’s time to do something about it.

Where do you even start looking for your mojo?

Trust me, it ain’t under the couch or, ahem, in the fridge.

So, you find yourself suddenly googling what the best motivational documentaries are to watch on Netflix or the top five most inspirational people in the world? You try podcast and Facebook videos but end up scrolling for hours without actually absorbing anything useful.

In a last ditch attempt, you turn to YouTube and inevitably fall down the rabbit hole of inspirational videos, spiritual awakenings and fairies…

And although someone shouting “you can do it!” can be helpful in some scenarios, it isn’t always what you need. Sometimes you need real, practical advice and actual ways to overcome the obstacles that you’re facing. Obstacles that your mind vomits to the forefront of your mind just when you thought you were starting to smash this business thing…

Money blocks, stopping you earning your worth.

Writers block holding you back from writing your next blog-post masterpiece.

Fear, whether it’s of getting visible, growing rapidly or the tech-blocks that stop you moving your next passive income plans forward.

Thoughts of “I’m not good enough” or “who am I to call myself an expert?”

Familiar? Yeah, it is to most people.

So when those things happen. You need practical steps and advice to overcome them, get over yourself and to move on past them. To start growing again, moving forward and actually doing what you’re supposed to be doing in your business.

Because you’re definitely not going to be making any money from that lovely rut you’ve created while spinning your wheels.

So here’s my personally curated list of the top three motivational books (or listens!) that you need to kick you up the backside!

The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks

With over 100,000 copies sold, New York Times bestselling author Gay Hendricks demonstrates how to go beyond your internal limits, release outdated fears and learn a whole new set of powerful skills and habits to liberate your authentic greatness.

If you were only going to read one more self-development book again in your life, make it this one. I regularly recommend this to clients and have read, re-read and listened to this so many times! You can literally discover the way to break down the walls to a better life with one of my favourite motivational books. Get it now!

Girl, Stop Apologising by Rachel Hollis

Rachel Hollis has seen it too often: women not living into their full potential. They feel a tugging on their hearts for something more, but they’re afraid of embarrassment, of falling short of perfection, of not being enough. In Girl, Stop Apologizing, #1 New York Times bestselling author and founder of a multimillion-dollar media company, Rachel Hollis sounds a wake-up call. She knows that many women have been taught to define themselves in light of other people-whether as wife, mother, daughter, or employee-instead of learning how to own who they are and what they want. With a challenge to women everywhere to stop talking themselves out of their dreams, Hollis identifies the excuses to let go of, the behaviours to adopt, and the skills to acquire on the path to growth, confidence, and believing in yourself.

I love this book. It made me nod along as I was listening to it in my car. I laughed and cried and, most importantly, identified with so many of the things Rachel raises in this book. Get it, even if it’s just for the New York Times Bestseller story.

Kick Ass by Mel Robbins

In  another of my best motivational books, read about the private coaching sessions between Mel and eight people whose problems range from simple to serious, hilarious to heart-breaking will have you laughing, crying and identifying in equal measure. The problems they think they have are actually symptoms of the underlying issues holding them back. To hear Mel Robbins coach them in real time makes this a premium audio experience: intimate, dynamic, and universally relatable. You can listen to this programme one session at a time, or you can binge on all the coaching in a single private session of your own. Either way, you will disrupt the patterns that hold you back, so that you can get un-stuck and Kick Ass with Mel Robbins!

I could listen to Mel all day, so when Kick Ass came out it was naturally my next download from my Audible subscription. And it doesn’t disappoint. Relatable to the very last sentence, you’ll find something to identify with from each of the amazing people Mel takes on her coaching journey.

Honestly, if you’ve read or listened to any of these motivational books and still can’t find your mojo, then I’m sorry – you need to seek more urgent help! I swear, they’ll have you swinging from the chandelier without so much as a sip of gin…
